Phemex is a relative newcomer to the crypto exchange scene, having been founded in 2019, but it has quickly established itself as a leading platform with a strong reputation for providing advanced trading functionality.

While the Singapore-based platform does offer basic crypto services, such as a quick way to buy and sell coins, it really shines when it comes to pro trader tools, including up to 100x leveraged trading, together with derivatives products.

It describes itself as the most efficient crypto trading and investment platform – a bold claim in the highly competitive trading platform sphere.

I took Phemex for a test drive to see if the exchange lives up to the hype and how it fares against the competition.

Getting started with Phemex

Getting started with Phemex is super simple – enter your email address, choose a password and confirm your details and your account will be set up instantly ready for the next steps.

You’ll need to complete AML/KYC verification to confirm your identity, which is now standard across mainstream exchanges. Although KYC is required to access all the functions/rewards on the platform, it’s not mandatory to start trading.

Phemex is laid out in a clean and accessible way which makes it easy to get to grips with. There is nothing hidden away meaning you won’t be grappling to find what you need.

For example, selecting spot trading takes you to a page of up-to-the-minute crypto prices and real time charts including live data on the top gainers and new listings.

The markets page also allows you to switch seamlessly between crypto categories of interest, such as DeFi, GameFi, NFT, Metaverse, Meme and Innovation to name a few.

The companion app also offers a high level of functionality meaning you can trade and manage your portfolio on the move.

Buying and selling crypto on Phemex

You can fund your Phemex account or buy crypto on the platform using several different methods, including:

  • Depositing crypto directly
  • Using a credit card to add funds
  • Spot trading on live markets
  • P2P Marketplace (buy and sell)
  • Over The Counter (OTC) trading

Phemex promises low fees and seamless integration for a wide variety of payment solutions.

You can use Phemex for basic trading if you choose, but under the hood there are a number of more advanced trading features, such as the leverage trading, together with long and short perpetual contracts (contracts with no end date) that I’ve already mentioned.

The Phemex exchange

Phemex offers a full-fledged professional exchange which includes all the tools and charts that anyone familiar with trading would expect.

The trading screen is highly customisable meaning you can set things up exactly how you like them. Data is fetched through TradingView – one of the largest chart services in the world – so you know it’s accurate.

If you’re not familiar with using a professional trading platform, there’s a handy beginners guide that pops up to help newbies navigate what can be a daunting array of options.

However, if you’re not quite ready to dive into this type of trading just yet you might want to try buying some crypto with your credit or debit card first, or by using stablecoins or other cryptos you hold via the converter function.

Earning interest with Phemex

Like many exchanges these days, Phemex gives clients the opportunity to earn a passive income by holding crypto on the platform.

At the time of writing, 11 coins were supported, offering returns of up to 8.80%. The highest rate was available on the stablecoin USDC.

You can quickly work out how much your returns will be over time using the calculator, with high rates on offer if you commit your crypto to a fixed term rather than on a flexible basis.

The platform also offers a ‘launchpool’ whereby you can earn even higher rates by staking a select few coins. Note, this can be risky.

APYs of up to 98.33% were available when I looked, with payments made hourly and instant withdrawals available.

The Phemex Launchpad

The Phemex Launchpad offers investors the opportunity to get in early on the latest coins and trends in the cryptosphere.

It’s designed to highlight up-and-coming tokens which have the potential to grow sharply in value while also offering opportunities to earn a passive income through staking.

The offering is similar in many ways to Binance’s Token Launch Platform which also highlights new tokens that are being offered through the exchange.

The Phemex Academy

Like other crypto exchanges, Phemex features an academy section which offers a wide range of educational resources to help you navigate the world of crypto.

This includes features on hot topics, together with explainers on crypto trading strategies, how to earn a passive income from your crypto, and even subjects such as which languages programmers need to learn to work on blockchains.

There’s some really useful info on offer here which will appeal to everyone – from complete novices to experienced traders. The articles are written in a very approachable way and are relevant to what’s happening right now.

You’ll also find a learn and earn section where you can actually get paid to broaden your understanding of crypto. Note: At the time of writing, learn and earn bonuses were temporarily suspended.

Is Phemex secure and safe to use?

Phemex is a highly secure platform, utilizing market-leading technology to keep clients’ funds safe.

The exchange used a hierarchical deterministic cold wallet system to protect user funds. It also secures its system on the Amazon Web Service (AWS) Cloud, together with using multiple levels of security and internal network access management protocols.

Two-factor authentication is deployed across accounts and users will need to bind Google Authenticator to their ID as part of the security process, which also adds an additional layer of protection when making withdrawals.

Phemex also uses bank-level double-entry bookkeeping to add an additional level of security to users’ funds.

Conclusion

Phemex has clearly established itself as a leading platform globally and has attracted a loyal client base of both retail investors and institutions.

While perhaps more geared towards experienced traders, novice crypto enthusiasts should have no trouble using the platform’s basic trading functionality and interest earning options.

If you’re looking for a trading platform that offers a high level of functionality and a super slick interface then Phemex is a solid choice and should definitely be considered alongside the other market players.
