Can Terra Luna Classic Reach 1 Dollar and LUNC Price Predictions?

‘Hope is a dangerous thing, my friend’ said Red (Morgan Freeman) in The Shawshank Redemption, yet it hasn’t deterred the Terra Luna Classic (LUNC) community from sticking by the token against all odds.
Ever since Terra Luna imploded in 2022, an increasingly vocal community has been pushing the case for a LUNC resurgence, asking questions like ‘can Terra Luna reach 1 dollar/$1?’ and ‘can Terra Luna classic recover?’.
Here, I’ll examine whether there’s any basis for this optimism or whether the chances of Terra Luna Classic reaching $1 are realistic.
Can Terra Luna reach $1?
The short answer to this is: it’s incredibly unlikely unless something drastically changes in terms of the number of tokens and LUNC’s utility.
Let me explain the reasoning behind this.
Luna Terra Classic is a blockchain protocol that was left behind after the spectacular implosion of the UST/Luna cryptocurrency.
At present, there are around 6.1 trillion LUNC tokens in circulation, the majority of which were created when Luna Classic forked with the LUNA chain.
To state the obvious – 6.1 trillion is a BIG number.
Given that the entire crypto market cap of roughly 18,000 coins is just under $1 trillion at the time of writing, you can see why a $1 LUNC seems like a pipe dream.
The huge number of tokens circulating and the lack of any real world utility at present means it’s highly unlikely LUNC will ever reach $1.
Yet it’s easy to see why people are hopeful.
At one point LUNA was worth $80 per token before the algorithmic stablecoin headed by Do Kwon, CEO of Korean-based Terraform, the company behind the coin, collapsed.
Of course, there were far fewer coins then and the token had purpose.
It seems that people are holding onto the prospect of the coin returning to its former glory, even if the maths just don’t add up.
How fast can Luna get to 1 dollar?
Having said all this, what’s giving die-hard LUNC fans cause for optimism is a new burn mechanism that’s been implemented to reduce the supply of tokens over time.
At present, Binance is the only major cryptocurrency exchange participating in the burn.
The exchange sent 5.6 billion LUNC collected from trading fees to a burn address during the first tranche in September 2022.
It is planning to release a weekly report detailing how many coins are disposed of on a rolling basis.
Now, an increasingly vocal community of LUNC supporters are calling for other exchanges, such as KuCoin, Coinbase and OKX, to participate in the burn.
If this were to happen, there would be a significant reduction in the LUNC supply.
However, it would still take quite some time to make a significant dent in the number of LUNC circulating, making a $1 dollar token still an unlikely proposition.
Can Terra Luna Classic recover?
Sentiment and hype can drive a crypto’s success, certainly in the short term, and that’s what’s been happening with LUNC.
A highly motivated group of supporters have been flooding social media with posts urging people to buy LUNC and help send it to the moon.
And it’s fair to say they’ve had a significant amount of success, with the token seeing huge gains in the months after the collapse.
Already, the price has risen significantly above the bottom and, at the time of writing, enthusiasm for trading LUNC showed no sign of slowing down.
Of course, there’ll be traders who are making money, especially as the token still exhibits significant price volatility, but it’s virtually impossible for the Terra Luna Classic to recover fully and go to $1 given the current conditions.
A significant increase in the number of tokens being burned would have to occur, or some other drastic measure to cut the supply, before LUNC would increase in any meaningful way and recover.
Is Terra Luna Classic dead?
Not just yet. Many people scooped up pots of millions of LUNC for next to nothing after the token supply exploded and they’re convinced it’s going to make them rich.
Given the huge supply and lack of utility I’ve already mentioned, Terra Luna Classic can only be viewed as a speculative coin that’s value is based on investors’ belief that it’ll go up in value.
While the coin is not dead yet, there’s the distinct possibility that in the not too distant future the price could collapse again as profit takers move out and supporters lose interest and move on.
For now though, there’s enough impetus among traders to keep pumping and dumping, while realising easy gains in the process.
Also, there’s still a lot of chatter about the coin, and hopium, to keep the project alive.
Terra Luna Classic (LUNC) price prediction
Predicting the next Terra Luna Classic price movement with any accuracy is very difficult, especially given the unpredictable nature of crypto markets.
That said, it seems logical that in the short term the coin could see moderate gains based on the excitement surrounding the burn project and the hubris of the token’s supporters.
But, despite a dwindling supply over the long term, LUNC still lacks any meaningful reason to garner long-term support.
I’ve seen all kinds or figures bandied around the web, including Terra Luna Classic reaching $1 by 2022, 2025 and 2030.
Other people have been more realistic, yet still optimistic, with price predictions of 10x by 2025 and 18x by 2030.
Think of a figure and you’ll probably find a LUNC price prediction in that ballpark.
It’s clear at the moment that nobody really knows where the price is headed.
Price predictions are notoriously unreliable to take anything you read with a pinch of salt.
Can Terra Luna token recover?
A huge reduction in supply, or a genuine reason for the coin to exist and remain active, is needed for LUNC to survive over the long term and recover any significant amount of its value.
To reach $1 from its current price would mean an increase of around 310,000%.
That’s a big mountain to climb.
Virtually nothing is impossible in the world of crypto, as has been demonstrated many times.
But at presents there’s just not enough money being invested in the token’s development to make prices of anywhere near $1 realistic.
Without any focus on a use case and, importantly, one which makes the token superior to others, LUNC will struggle to recover, especially as more cryptos are being launched each week.
Should I invest in Luna Classic?
If you’re looking to ride the wave of positive sentiment around LUNC and attempt to make a short term gain, it’s possible this will be a successful strategy.
But the potential profits to be had by buying and HODLing LUNC over the long term are less certain and, in fact, somewhat unlikely in my view.
That’s not to say that a major event just around the corner could turn the token’s fortunes on its head, but there’s nothing concrete to suggest this is happening any time soon.
At the time of writing there was speculation about the Lithosphere (LITHO) blockchain implementing Terra Luna Classic as one of the networks in its cross-chain FINESSE games.
If this goes ahead it would mean around 2.5 trillion LUNC burned at the cost of between $50-$100 million. That’s a big chunk of the supply taken out of circulation.
If this comes to fruition it could have a significant impact on the price of Terra Luna Classic.
But whether this is enough to send it to the stratosphere and reach the all-important $1 mark remains to be seen.
