Enigma Black Diamond Goes Under the Hammer – and Crypto is Accepted

A billion-year-old black diamond ‘from outer space’ is going under the hammer – and crypto will be accepted as payment.
The extremely rare stone which is believed to have been carried to earth by an asteroid that collided with the planet is being auctioned by Sotheby’s.
The stone has been dubbed The Enigma and features in the 2006 Guinness Book of World Records for being the largest cut diamond in the world at 555.55 carats.
This figure reflects the inspiration behind the shape of the stone – the Middle Eastern Hamsa symbol which is palm-shaped and represents protection, power and strength.
The Hamsa is associated with the number five and the diamond also contains exactly 55 facets.
Nikita Binani, a Sotheby’s Jewellery Specialist, said: “This diamond has been treasured for over two decades by the owner, and the diamond itself has never been exhibited publicly or offered on the open market, so we are thrilled to have the opportunity to tell its story to the world.
“Its sale represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to acquire one of the rarest, billion-year-old cosmic wonders known to humankind.”
Sotheby’s said that cryptocurrency will be accepted as payment for the diamond, in a move that reflects the fact that “cryptocurrency has started to make its mark in the world of physical art and objects.”
Last year Sotheby’s auctioned the Key 10138 diamond, which was purchased using crypto for a record price.
